Christian Garrick’s String Bag

Saturday 5 September, 8.15pm

Swansea Minster, St Mary’s Square

We are delighted to welcome Chris Garrick, an award‑winning jazz violinist renowned for his exceptional power, versatility, and artistry to Swansea International Jazz Festival.

For Saturday’s last show he brings his exciting new project, String Bag, a “brand‑new mini‑band showcasing bowed strings outside their comfort zone of classical music.”

This innovative ensemble places a three‑string frontline at its heart:

· Chris Garrick – Violin

· Bill Hawkes – Viola

· Rupert Gillett – Cello

They are energised by a superb jazz trio:

· David Gordon – Piano

· Alec Dankworth – Bass

· Tom Hooper – Drums

Together, they explore a boldly eclectic mix of Mahavishnu‑influenced soundscapes, 70s funk‑fusion, and original compositions by Chris Garrick and David Gordon, resulting in a performance that is as dynamic as it is distinctive.

Chris Garrick has been instrumental in redefining the modern jazz violin. Violin legend Nigel Kennedy has praised him as “one of the best in Europe.”

Expect creativity, energy, and world‑class musicianship, an unforgettable night of music!
