About
This workshop will guide you through the process of creating a sturdy frame basket with a handle.
Adaptable and practical, frame basketry can be turned to a variety of uses. Frame baskets are among the oldest forms of woven basket and can be found across the world. In Wales, they hold a particular resonance, with images of cockle pickers with their baskets popularised during the 19th century.
In this whistle-stop introduction you'll learn the principles of constructing a frame using willow hoops, shaping and adding ribs, and exploring different techniques of packing and weaving. By the end of the workshop, you'll leave with a solid grounding in the fundamentals of this historic craft.
All materials and tools will be provided. No prior experience is necessary.
Please note: basket weaving requires dexterity and can be physically demanding on the hands.
Free.
Adult workshop for people over 16 of age.
