About

Ifemeluigbo Cultural Dance Group presents Igbo Occupational Dance and Dance Hall, a performance that celebrates both tradition and fusion. The group piece showcases the energetic movements of Nigerian Igbo occupational dance, reflecting rhythms of communal life and cultural identity. This is followed by a solo or duo dance hall performance by IfemeluIgbo, featuring vibrant Caribbean costumes and SOCA music, highlighting cultural exchange between Africa and the Caribbean.

What sets Ifemeluigbo apart is our ability to bridge cultures while remaining deeply authentic. For the Swansea Arts Weekend, we are presenting a brand-new work titled Igbo Occupational Dance, Igbo Storytelling Drama, and Dance Hall. The performance unfolds in three interwoven elements: first, an Igbo occupational dance reflecting the rhythms and movements inspired by daily life; second, an Igbo storytelling drama that brings folktales and ancestral wisdom to life; and finally, a dance hall section, featuring Caribbean dance costumes and infused with the lively sounds of SOCA music. This fusion highlights cultural exchange between Africa and the Caribbean. As a multi-diverse dancer with expertise across many styles, Ifemeluigbo embodies both tradition and innovation, captivating audiences through performances that are vibrant, versatile, and culturally resonant.
