About
James Allsopp Quartet plays Stan Getz
Saturday 5 September, 5.30pm
Ocean Room, National Waterfront Museum
With his new quartet, award-winning saxophonist James Allsopp pays tribute to one of his lifelong musical inspirations, the legendary Stan Getz. Drawing on the music he grew up loving, Allsopp celebrates Getz’s extraordinary legacy with a fresh, contemporary touch.
Together, the James Allsop Quartet present a wonderfully varied programme that spans the full breadth of Getz’s repertoire, from lush, romantic ballads and iconic bossa novas to swinging jazz standards and vibrant bebop tunes. Their interpretations honour the elegance of the originals while allowing the music to evolve naturally, creating performances that feel authentic, alive, and perfectly at home in the present day.
