About

Imagine sculpting a character or bringing along a favourite toy, then watching it come alive in a digital world. In this workshop, art meets technology as your creation is brought to life through 3D animation, no experience required, just your imagination.

You can have a go at creating your own character or object using clay or other material (or bring a toy or item), then scan it into a virtual world of digital 3D.

Inside the digital world, you'll bring your model to life and have a go at animating it! Make it run, walk, jump or just be part of the scenery. At the end you'll have your animated model emailed to you so you can keep it, show it off, or even use it in a short film in future sessions.

We will work though every step together and so no digital skills are needed.

FREE, boking required for the workshop drop in for a look and a cup of tea any time.
Suitable for anyone 9 and above, accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Session Overview
The session is designed to be flexible rather than tightly timed, allowing participants to progress at their own pace. This ensures that those who finish a task early are not left waiting unnecessarily for support or processing. During any required processing periods (e.g. photogrammetry rendering or when workstation access is limited), refreshments will be provided and encouraged.

Introduction
Participants will be invited to download the required application on their phones, where applicable (this step is optional).

Phase 1: Model Creation (approx 90 mins)
Participants will create a character using the materials provided, such as clay. To enable animation, models should be posed in a T-position; alternatively, participants may choose to make a static object for use as scenery or a digital set. Pre-built toys or personal objects may also be brought along and used.

Phase 2: Photogrammetry (approx 45 mins)
Participants will capture a series of photographs (typically 50–75, but up t ok o 250 if required) of their model in order to generate a 3D version. Once complete, the 3D model will be uploaded automatically to Sketchfab. A shared Sketchfab account will be available for those using their own devices, or models can be emailed instead if preferred.

Phase 3: Animation & Showcase (approx 45 mins)

The completed model will be automatically rigged and animated within a single application. Participants will then be able to view their creations in Virtual Reality for inspection. Where time permits, models may also be imported into Blender, allowing all participants' work to be combined into a shared showcase scene. This showcase will be rendered after the event, with a YouTube link provided so participants can revisit and share their work. All models will also be saved for potential future sessions.
