About
Swansea Philharmonic Choir invites you to an unforgettable evening of choral music at the Brangwyn Hall, celebrating the visionary music of Ralph Vaughan Williams. Under the direction of Jonathan Rogers, the choir is joined by the orchestra of the British Sinfonietta and distinguished soloists, Eleri Gwilym, (soprano) and James Geidt (bass), for a concert of passion and spiritual depth.
The programme opens with Five Mystical Songs, Vaughan Williams' setting of texts by George Herbert. This much-loved work explores faith, doubt and joy, culminating in the resplendent hymn Antiphon, a moment of blazing choral affirmation.
After the interval comes the composer's vast and exhilarating A Sea Symphony. This groundbreaking work was Vaughan Williams' first symphony and remains one of his most ambitious. Sweeping orchestral seascapes, soaring choral writing and powerful solo contributions combine to create a musical voyage that is both epic and deeply human, charting the soul's journey through life, exploration and transcendence.
This concert promises an immersive experience in one of Britain's most magnificent concert halls; a true highlight of the choral season.
