Just a short walk from picturesque Three Cliffs Bay, close to Pennard Golf Club, North Wind is the studio/workshop & exhibition space of Rowan Huntley, a professional artist for 30 years. Set in a pretty garden in the quiet village of Pennard, this delightful working studio is ideally positioned to be enjoyed in conjunction with bracing walks, a round of golf or coffee and cake at the local Coffee Shops.

At North Wind visitors can browse original gallery work undisturbed or enjoy a studio chat about materials and art adventures should they choose. This unique gallery is run by an individual artist so visits are by prior arrangement only please, however a warm welcome awaits. Rowan’s expanding creative practice continues to embrace an intense enthusiasm for the natural environment: from the ice-age geology of Gower, to vulnerable frozen habitats around the globe.

Her representational paintings portray fragile rugged terrain, evocative skies and the beautiful, transient play of light on the landscape. However, the completion of a Masters degree in 2019 (Fine Art - Contemporary Dialogues) has sparked exploration below the surface. This looks at rock, ice and landscape subjects in a multitude of new ways using innovation and an array of exciting materials in addition to paint.

A passion for ice has led to increased awareness of the damaging impact of global warming on the environment and Rowan states:
“my current work sits where art meets science, seen from my perspective as a coastal inhabitant of industrial south Wales. Arising from an affinity for ice it reflects man’s impact upon nature. Undertaking Polar expeditions strengthened my appreciation of the frozen world which, along with a fascination for geology, inspire my exploration of materiality and the dynamic forces of nature. Gower has some of the best ice-age geology and coast-scape in the uk and I am incredibly fortunate to live here!”
